Hello!

I had a professor as an undergraduate by the name of Jon Bridgman. He was my favorite professor of all time for the following reasons: 1) He had this rumbling laugh. And it would erupt out of nowhere; 2) Dr. Bridgman was an engaging lecturer and thoughtful educator. He inspired people to learn; 3) He always gave something extra in his lectures, such as a little bit of life advice or, some thought to chew on throughout the day. Or a really hilarious joke or story.

I remember sitting in class one day in the springtime, and just as class was dismissed, Dr. Bridgman encouraged us to walk upstairs and to look at the beautiful cherry blossoms as they were blooming. Dr. Bridgman said, "I once had a teacher tell me that to truly appreciate each day, one should try to find five beautiful things to look at each day. I remember this piece of advice about once a month." Us students laughed, and then proceeded to leave class. Although I did not go upstairs, I luckily did get to pass by the cherry blossoms on my way out. And you know what? They were beautiful. And I felt happy.

So this blog is my attempt to really appreciate life. To try to look at five beautiful things...um, how about per week, and share them? I am trying to be realistic. So how about a goal of at least five beautiful things a week? And if I post more, then all right, more beautiful things to look at!

So...speaking of those cherry blossoms...

Thanks Dr. Bridgman! It's been at least six years since I have taken a class of yours and what you taught is still with me today!
